Homemade treats let you control every ingredient - no mystery fillers, no artificial colours. These five recipes are simple, vet-approved and use things you likely already have. Your dog will think you're a genius.

⚠️ Important rules Never use xylitol, grapes/raisins, chocolate, onions, garlic or macadamia nuts - all toxic to dogs. When in doubt, ask your vet. Treats should make up no more than 10% of daily calories.

1. Peanut butter & pumpkin bites

Ingredients: 1 cup pumpkin purée (plain, no spices), 2 tbsp natural peanut butter (xylitol-free), 2 cups whole wheat flour, 1 egg.

  1. Mix all ingredients into a dough; add a splash of water if too dry.
  2. Roll out and cut into small shapes.
  3. Bake at 175°C (350°F) for 15-20 minutes until firm.
  4. Cool completely - then watch them vanish.

2. Frozen banana pops

The easiest "recipe" on Earth - perfect for hot days.

  1. Mash 2 ripe bananas with 2 tbsp plain yogurt.
  2. Spoon into an ice cube tray.
  3. Freeze for 2-3 hours.
  4. Pop one out as a cool summer treat.

3. Sweet potato chews

Dogs go crazy for these, and they're fantastic for teeth.

  1. Peel and slice a sweet potato into thin strips.
  2. Bake at 120°C (250°F) for 2-3 hours until dried, like jerky.
  3. Let cool. Store in the fridge in a sealed jar.

4. Oat & banana cookies

Ingredients: 2 ripe bananas, 1½ cups rolled oats, 1 tsp honey.

  1. Blend everything until it forms a thick dough.
  2. Scoop small balls onto a tray and flatten.
  3. Bake at 160°C (325°F) for 12-15 minutes.

5. Carrot-cucumber crunch

Not a recipe, a snack: raw baby carrots and cucumber slices are crunchy, low-calorie, and great for training rewards.

🐾 Pro tip Start with one new recipe at a time and watch for tummy upset. Introduce treats gradually, and store homemade treats in the fridge - no preservatives means they spoil faster.

Homemade treats are a lovely way to spoil your dog with love and healthy ingredients. Happy baking! 🦴
