Where to Put Your Bird's Cage: The Ideal Spot in Your Home

You've bought the cage and the bird - but where should it go? Placement is one of the most overlooked pieces of bird care, and it affects everything from their feathers to their friendliness. Here's the recipe for the perfect spot.
The ideal location
- Against a wall (birds feel safer with a "back")
- In the family room where they see daily life - birds are social
- At about chest height, so you're at eye level
- Near a window for natural light, but not IN direct sun
- A corner position gives the most security
What to avoid
- Kitchens - fumes from Teflon cookware are deadly to birds
- Drafty windows or doors - sudden temperature swings
- Direct sunlight all day - overheating
- Near TV speakers or air vents
- Hallways with constant passers-by can stress shy birds
- On the floor or too high - either extreme stresses them
⚠️ Kitchens are a death trap
Heated, burning Teflon releases an invisible, odorless gas that kills birds in minutes. This is a genuine, well-documented emergency - never keep birds in the kitchen.
🐾 Two cages work
Consider a large main cage plus a smaller "sleep cage" in a quiet room. Cover it at night for 10-12 hours of darkness - birds sleep better and stay calmer.
A bird in the middle of family life, with a safe wall behind it and a quiet spot to sleep, is a happy bird. Placement is free - and it matters as much as any toy.
